On February 23rd, the 17th annual University of Michigan Mock Rock event took place at U-M’s Power Center. Hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, or SAAC, Mock Rock is a variety talent show featuring the university’s student-athletes.
The show was created in 1999 as a tribute to Michigan wrestler Jeff Reese, who passed away while training for a competition. Inspired by its meaningful history, Mock Rock has become an event in which student-athletes work off the field to fundraise for a beneficiary within the Ann Arbor community.
This year, the event raised over $10,000 and donated the funds to Athletes Connected, an initiative to support student-athlete mental health, in memory of Garrick Roemer. Roemer, a U-M Track and Field star, passed away in May 2014.
